Tip of the Week Section
Originally September 24, 2010 Right-Sizing Photos for your Web Site and for Power Point Shows On some web sites, perhaps even your own, you may find a page that loads pretty quickly, except for that photo, which seems to take quite a lot of time. Here’s why. The actual display size of the photo may be 160 x 107 pixels. However, the photo may be stored on the site in its full size of 3,456 x 2,304 pixels. That’s a whopping 4,024 KB (4 megabytes) of data, and it all has to come down the wire. To speed this up, record the photo on the web site at 160 x 107 pixels; that only takes up 33 KB and will load in the blink of an eye.
While you’re at it, check out your Power Point photos. You may take a large photo like the one above and adjust it on the screen to fit the screen you wish to display. Keep in mind, however, that you have just added 4,024 KB to the size of your Power Point presentation, rather than the much smaller size you’d add if you had first reduced the photo to something like 800 x 600 pixels. A show containing lots of super-big photos may not even run on some laptops.

Lots of Questions There are several areas we are re-analyzing and have questions about: • What standards and regulations do you apply to your kitchen as far as safety rules and rental costs? • What are typical prices charged for rental of classrooms, fellowship halls, etc? • How much do you differentiate between members and non-members? • How are funeral lunches handled cost wise and meal wise at your churches? I always appreciate the help from this group. Thanks, Julie Windler Woodlake Lutheran Church 7525 Oliver Ave. S. Richfield MN 55423-3614 (612) 866-8449 jwindler@woodlakechurch.org

Heavy-Duty Custom Volleyball Sets – 4 Available – Free! (Nets NOT included) I used to host volleyball tournaments and we would rent turf space where you are not allowed to drive stakes into the ground… so long story short, I custom-made some concrete bases and poles to hold nets that would not damage turf. Each base is 150-200lbs of solid steel and concrete, so you will need a good truck to haul them away. I am giving them away because I need the storage space and I no longer host events for volleyball. They need a good home, but it is first come, first serve. I have given away two sets already, and 4 are currently available. YOU MUST pick them up if you are interested. Thanks, Tyree Lawrence Director LVY Foundation info@theLVYfoundation.org (612) 234-1589
